Recently, I've been having an issue with the Ab tone hole on both my oboe and English horn. When I press the left Ab key, the tone hole sometimes does not lift up or takes a split second to come up which is very noticeable.
Using the right Ab key isn't an issue because the touch piece is directly connected to the key. It happens to my EH occasionally when I'm warming up but it usually goes away once I wiggle the key a little bit. On oboe, it just doesn't want to go away.
I've disassembled the top joints on both, cleaned off the rod and posts and reapplied key oil. Also gently cleaned off the pads (even though they did not feel sticky). I reassembled the instruments but it didn't help at all.
Any tips? There are no oboe repair specialists within a 100-mile radius of me and the woodwind specialist won't even dare to touch my oboe.

Increase the spring tension on both the G# key and lever so it will still open and close when operated by the LH pinkie and to make it more reliable. Don't overdo it or you'll break the springs or have a G# key that won't close if the springs aren't balanced correctly - the G# lever (LH pinky) should have the stronger spring tension to control the opening and closing of the G# pad cup.

Thanks. I believe I did try that before but it didn't work. I will give it another try in the morning and see if anything changes.
