Back in November Fox announced that they are teaming up with Laubin to produce a new model of oboe. Does anyone here have more information on this?

Fox had the first five Fox-Laubin oboes on display at the IDRS conference in Tokyo. I tried them and thought they were wonderful. I'm a Laubin player, so the Fox-Laubin oboes' scale and resistance were familiar to me. These instruments are also a great value.

I heard that these oboes would have a suggested retail price of $6,500.

That's a very good price for a pro level oboe.
Considering the long waiting list for a new and also used Laubin oboe, this will at least make a Laubin-style instrument accessible to more players.

I was told the the Fox Laubin oboes are completely designed by Paul Labuin, but manufactured by Fox. So the bore, tone holes, keyword, bell geometry are all 100% Laubin but Fox just makes it according to their specifications.

I just read these comments on their Facebook page:
Q. "I'm very confused - did fox and Laubin merge? More info please...."
Fox Products Corporation's answer: "No, Fox and Laubin remain entirely independent entities. We are collaborating on this one model of oboe, featuring Fox mechanics paired with Laubin acoustics. A real gem of an oboe! It will be generally available soon - stay tuned in!"

Laubin sent me a couple Fox-Laubin oboes to try. I wrote a little about them on my website. http://aaronlakota.com/review-fox-laubin-oboe/. I think they are nice instruments, definitely worth a look for people in the market for a new oboe.
