Some suggest the throat method to be more appropriate. When i first started blindly on the vibrato practise, it tried to initiate the vibrato with pulsations of the throat, exactly what ohsuzan described in her post. As i progressed i was taught to use diaphragm vibrato. Nowadays i use mostly diaphragm vibrato, but i find it interesting to apply throat vibrato once in a while. Once you have mastered vibrato i guess the 2 method co-exist together, yes, the throat vibrato tends to be more obvious, but if you want to diaphragm vibrato can sound just as strong right? It sounds different in a way but still they are both well accepted methods. And i also find it difficult to do a subtle vibrato with the throat method. A wider vibrato seems to be better achieved in its effect using diaphragm vibrato. But of course this is just me.
