Honestly most of the models will be better than what he is playing! Having played one of those Selmers myself for my formative years, but I'd probably go with the Fox 450 if you can swing it, or the 330 (w/side F key!) if not.
That being said, I hope you have a teacher for your son, or at least an oboe contact person? If not, call the local symphony or music college (hopefully something within a couple hours?) and set up an appointment for trying oboes. Even if you don't do regular lessons, it will be valuable to have their advice when picking an instrument (ESPECIALLY used). Most teachers are open to giving lessons on an occasional basis if cost is an issue. Good luck!
