My Holyday wish for all of you players out there is that each and every one of you know the joy of having at least One Perfect Reed in 2013. And may your oboe mechanisms never jamb, stick, slip, gurgle, or click excessively in concert.

I think that's a lovely wish..maybe a bit of a long stretch but a lovely wish all the same..I just pray I don't have a rod slip out just before a concert as has happened once before..quite frightened the life out of me..thankfully I had my trusty old Loree Screwdriver which did the trick.
All the best to you as well
Andrew

I once lost a screw on a band room floor, and picked it up a week later. It's a miracle that no vacuum cleaner swept by and scooped it up, because it belonged to a 1930s instrument and would be hard to replace! I should have locked it down with clear nail polish, because I knew it was slippery...
Good for you, keeping a screwdriver handy! "Always be prepared..."

I am always surprised at how much "Oboe Luggage" I haul around to rehearsals and concerts..Most instruments come straight out of their respective cases and are good to go..no additional kit whatsoever. I however seem to take allsorts of bits of kit along with the Oboe and usual reed cases. I take, reed knives, Rizla cigarette papers, very fine sandpaper in case a cork pad sticks, pliers, wire, plaques, fish skin, nail polish, an assortment of screwdrivers, tuners (x2..only mildly neurotic there then), my Cor Anglais always comes along, it's in the case anyway..plus 2 music stands as someone always turns up and looks surprised that they would need to bring one along..I suppose we should be grateful they remember to bring their Double Bass or whatever instrument it is they play. I need a small louis Vuitton Trunk to drag all the stuff I take along rather than my usual bags..
Hey Ho the Joys of playing the Oboe..no one will ever know what we go through to bring them our unique sound which is why no doubt we are constantly reminding them Ha Ha!
Happy Holidays and a Prosperous New Year..

@Andrew,
You forgot the oboe and the cor stand, all current music + at least one oboe/piano work for fun (in case there's a piano and a pianist and a spare few minutes), swabs, a spring-hook, an oiler, a sharpening stone, teflon tape, cling-film, reed thread (for when the knot comes undone), assorted pointy things (always useful), clip-on band-stand light, digital recorder, a couple of french-horn players (they're never there when you need them - take some with you), two more stands for the horns, a spare baton for when the conductor breaks his when stabbing the cellist .. oh, the list is endless ..
Happy holidays!

I'm sure the good Queen will forgive you, you got the important part down.
re: oboe luggage.
Murphy's law applies: when you pack it, you don't need it.
When you leave it at home...
But you can ALWAYS take along a flexible attitude and grateful heart, and wish folks well. That particular gift is dang affordable but pays better than any Lotto.
