the modern oboe family is as follow:

oboe musette (or piccolo) in Eb or D
oboe soprano in C (the most common)
oboe d'amore in A (very used by J.S. Bach, for instance the the Great Mass in H minor)
english horn in F
oboe bariton in C, one octave lower than soprano.

there is the Heckelphone (see: http://www.heckel.de) a bariton oboe.

What are the major stuctural differences between the heckelphone and the baritone oboe? Does Heckel still produce and sell heckelphones? What instrument is actually called for in Holst's "The Planets?" Do composers who write for the bass oboe think that it is synonymous with the heckelphone or do they realize that they are different instruments? What about reeds? Who makes reeds for these unusual instruments? Who gouges and shapes cane for piccolo, oboe d'amore, and bass oboe? Is wire typically used on d'amore reeds? Sorry about all of the questions. Just curious.

the only thing I can answer is that Hecker currently makes Heckelphones, as you can see in the Heckel's website. More information about Heckelphones may be found on:
http://www.contrabass.com/pages/heckel.html
also a comparaison between this extrange instrument and bariton oboe, in terms of sound, bore, and so on.
There are some sounds samples
