... goop idea to mess up case lining, better to wipe off surplus grease (but NOT on your oboe swab, use a grease rag)
... better idea to be quite sparing with cork grease, work it into cork with fingers, no goop left over
... somebody from repair shop says cork grease ruins cork faster? ... maybe that should read "over-use" of cork grease? Use cork grease to condition cork, prevent drying out, and slide joints together easily, don't need much at all once the cork is moist, pliable, soft, smooth from frequent light applications
... best idea, use * joint end caps * to keep case clean, and keep cork moist pliable soft & smooth for long time in storage
... there are * joint end caps * available, try maybe Midwest or Forrests, etc. if your oboe doesn't have any ... however ... generic plastic may fit your oboe loosely (hey, another great use for micro-pore tape, line inside of caps so they fit snug & don't fall off) ... and then there's the opposite problem, one cap of plastic pair might be too tight on your oboe, meaning ... problem-solver, over to you!
