Hi looking to get a oboe to play and its been 11 years sence I have played a clarinet Saw a company selling an oboe Rosetti Full Conservatory. Cost $ 825.00 seems cheap but if I am not planning on playing professionally truthfully whats the best to get without paying 2000 or more.

No, that is bad advise...i know that Bulgheroni oboes can be acquired at around that price but also, no brand is a certainty as one has to try to really know the qualities of each oboe....i have played terrible Marigauxs and Lorees, so it is really a case to case basis. Get a chance to try one....

Any brand new full conservatoire oboe for well under $1000 is best avoided.

My parents paid, I think, some $875 for my first oboe back in 1975. In 2008 dollars, that's $3454. It wasn't a bad student instrument. I think new Lorées were about $2000 at the time.

Although Martin Schuring mentions injection moulded plastic bodies in a rather negative way, joints can be injection moulded to give the initial basic joint with an underized bore (and a shiny surface finish) and then finished to a high standard by reaming the bore, drilling all the toneholes and cutting bedplaces as would be done normally. Yamaha 200 series oboe joints are injection moulded to give the final bore and outside dimensions.
But it is true that some plastic oboes of the past have a lot to be desired in terms of quality, as do a LOT of the cheapos flooding the market right now.

I say if they let you try it at no risk, then try it.
But don't buy it just because it's a bargain!
