the most important thing is to come up with a method that has your fingers making the CORRECT MOTIONS. Practicing things fast does no good at all if you keep making mistakes. All you're doing is reinforcing the mistakes. I like to use different rhythms than those written, and gradually increase the speed.
You should mix it up so that you are playing different rhythms all the time. That way, each note in the passage will get a different emphasis. Four sixteenths could be practiced as a dotted eighth, a sixteenth and two eighths. Then you can shift where the dotted eighth-sixteenth notes fall in the group so that each note is played that way. I find it really helpful. Then, when you go back to play it as written, somehow it is smoother and more accurate.
Whatever you do, play so that the finger motions are correct every time.
