Thanks for the thread Dutchy! You reminded me that I too owe thanks to JohnT for the metronome technique. When my community band read Alfred Reed's Armenian Dances (Part 1) I sat dumfounded through the oboe solos! I nearly cried! Then I read John's advice. Heretofore I used my metronome in the moment to enforce correct rhythm. I had never thought of keeping precise track of exactly how slow I had to go to get it right and to scientifically advance the speed by taking one step back! Wow! Thanks John. And after hours and hours of practice I was able to play it in concert well enough to get compliments from fellow band members! And I'm a 57 year old kid!
