 Bonade ligature models variations

Are there any quality differences between the HB (HEROUARD & BERNARD) Bonade ligatures, the Buzz Bonades and the current modern Bonades? (coming within a little transparent plastic box) I've seen many versions and I wonder how each plays or what's better over the other one. I've also seen old versions which I've heard they play better, named PATENTED, but they usually sell for crazy high prices..

It depends on your taste. Besides that, they do vary a little. Personally, I used to use the inverted but as the years went on I found I liked the regular style better as I c=found it had more ring.

The old ones are supposed to be nickel silver rather than nickel silver plated brass

What mouthpiece and reed you use the regular Bonade on? I've heard a theory that regulars play better with closer tip mouthpiece and harder reeds and inverted ones play better with more open tip mps and lighter reeds. I believe all that is subjective as I've seen many with open tip mouthpieces playing the regular Bonade and really working.

I have used the traditional Bonade on various mouthpieces, ranging from close to medium facings

I use what would be considered close-tipped mouthpieces and I've consistently found I'm more comfortable with inverted ligatures. I like to play with the mouthpiece angle more acute, or at least the *ability* to pull the reed angle closer to my chin. I find that screws in the front interfere with that.

So maybe a major determinant for players' choice of inverted or standard is their preferred mouthpiece angle.

Same with my teacher. He plays inverted Bonade because he likes very short clarinet angle playing for some reason.
