 Bernstein / Drucker / Copland - LIVE
Author: GBK

If you haven't seen this recently posted gem - It's a 1970 Young People's Concert with Bernstein conducting the Copland Concerto with Stanley Drucker.

As usual, Bernstein's commentary and Stanley in his prime are amazing -

A few years ago, I was at one of Stanley Drucker's final solo appearances with the NY Phil just before he retired after a 60+ year career with the orchestra -- a feat that puts him in a class by himself. It was in New Jersey and he played the Copland.

Amazing performance in that he was over 80 and played with all the enthusiasm and verve of the much younger artist in the YouTube video. If ever there was a statement about why Mr. Drucker is one of the most outstanding clarinetists of our time, this was it. He played with great delicacy and sensitivity on the one hand, and blazing technique and assurance on the other.

I was, to use one of S.J. Perelman's choice coinages, chop-fallen.
