Need to quickly fix a bad clarinet pad with what I have in the house. This is one of the larger pads on the lower joint. I have some generic standard thickness glue-on pads I got off EBay a year or so ago for the heck of it and then I also have some thicker (.130") Valentino self-adhesive pads I got on-line even before that. To me, the generic pad looks slightly smaller but barely. Definitely thinner though.
I understand Vitos use thicker pads. My question is which of these is the better in my situation? I hear the self-adhesive are good for smaller keys, yet the generic pad isn't thick like the other pads on the clarinet. Is it better to have thickness? If I use a little bit of heat with the Valentino, will that help the self adhesive to work out better?
If these were your only 2 choices, which would you go with in a pinch?
Thanks.
