I bought one a few weeks ago. I found it to be more resistant than I was comfortable with. Following a suggestion on this bb I thinned the tip rail to about half its original width and now it plays quite well. Not my favourite mouthpiece, but a good backup.

I have been using the X10 for some time and really don't get the resistance from it otherothers complain of..

Certainly the B40 is much harder to work with in this regard being about 1.20 in the opening dept. As for sound I think it is quite big and with a good reed you are able to control the tone easily and readily. Intonation and tone colour are very nice with intervals easy to achieve across the break and into the altissimo.

I think the rod rubber may feel resistant or a bit unyielding in terms of the facial muscles..but alas adjusting is what one has to do. Crystal pieces are even more resistant I think..I love the sound of crystal but just never could get used to the feeling of playing them. For me the X10 blends nicely with oboes..and that is not an easy task. I use Vandoren m13s and find the resitance not as dramatic an issue in trying either..alas the m13lyre is about 19mm long and so is the X10...I just don't like the shorter lay x5 and x0..so for me it more about baffle and window leagnth!!

Remember to always try a few reeds..don't expect a reed on one mouthpiece to work on another facing ever!

D. Dow,

Long time since I've seen you post.

I am using a Reserve X10 and really like it. I moved from a B45 but have used Portnoy BP02s and some other pretty open MPs in the past. But I'm a doubler so... I use VD Traditional 3.5 and La Voz MH reeds.

DD, I got a new Yamaha CS Custom this past summer to replace an older one. It is a beautiful instrument. Do you still like your CSGs?

Best,

HRL
