 Why use a different mouthpiece

Moving on from my previous thread, I'm now reading through other threads to look for info on what type of clarinet to buy as a 2nd time beginner with 6 years experience.

I've noticed a lot of you recommend one type of clarinet and then another type of mouthpiece - why is that? Obviously I'm a bit naive, I just thought you use the mouthpiece that comes with the clarinet, LOL!

Clarinet manufacturers make clarinets, not mouthpieces.
In most cases the mouthpiece that comes with a new clarinet is very inexpensive, and most of the time, of dubious quality.

The best thing to do with most of them is use them for door stops.

The late 1950's Leblanc Dynamic 2 I had for a while (nice instrument!) had its original Leblanc mouthpiece, which played quite nicely.

The ONLY reason I replaced that clarinet was that even though it seemed to play perfectly, to give it the overhaul it deserved looked like it would have cost me more than buying a new Ridenour Arioso for <$800. (Sold Leblanc for $350, net cost <$450. And I was never without a good horn to play.) Even that choice was up in the air until I had the Arioso in hand and was happy it played as well or better... I could have returned it otherwise.
