I heard him play a number of times over the years and studied with him as part of a summer festival. He really encouraged the player to find the expression in the music. In my experiences, he was a very nice person to work with.Many here likely have played his great band transcription of Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis.

Wilson was a major force in the development and growth of the Yale music program.
