 Cadenza Redesign
Author: BrianChau
Date:   2009-10-13 03:01

Hello,
(this question is mainly directed to Morrie Backun, but if anyone else knows the answer, please enlighten me)

Is the Leblanc Cadenza clarinet being redesigned? If yes, what is being modified?
Also, is there going to be a new Cadenza pitched in A (because since this will be redesigned, might as well make a A one too..)

From an inside source I won't divulge...

The main redesign of the Cadenza will be a better bell. IIRC, it will be a Backun grenadilla bell. Since the Bliss clarinet plays about as well as the Cadenza, they weren't selling many since the Bliss came out at a lower price point.

Jeff, did your source happen to reveal when approximately the redesigned Cadenza will be ready to come out? I was considering buying a Cadenza in a few months, but this changes my plans.

Also, in response to Brian's last point, I once read that Backun had no plans to make a Cadenza A clarinet, but again, this was quite a while ago, and he may have changed his mind.

P.S. I have been an avid reader of this board for some time, but this is actually my first time posting.

The only redesign I have heard about is the Leblanc Bass Clarinets. Scott Kurtsweil said something some time ago on the Leblanc forum about them when I asked about the Rosewood bass clarinets. He said he would try to make rosewood a consideration. I would be very happy if they did and the new design gets them on par with buffet and selmer.

(I tried forever to find a rosewood bass clarinet when I was shopping and never found one for sale. I've only ever seen two.)

I wasn't sure if the redesign claim was true, and I searched on the web to verify it. There's nothing on the Backun Musical Services website, but I did find that on Dave Kessler's website there's a note that says the Cadenza will be redesigned. Nothing specific though.
