I heard Paquito play about ten years ago at Blues Alley in Washington, DC -- I got there early so had the opportunity to watch him rehearse the band for about half an hour before the show. It was obvious from the way he interacted with the group that he is a very jovial and self-effacing sort of person, and very well respected by his band members. Not to mention the show itself, which was one of the best live performances I've ever attended. I can think of very few clarinetists who play so competently and so distinctively in as wide a variety of styles and genres as he does.
