Dumb question but one I've always wanted to ask. With so many excellent mouthpieces around today, what mouthpieces are kept for private use by the many various makers today? Kept by those who have their choice from hundreds of great ones.
I'm thinking Goldbeck solid gold table ... what?

it's the opposite- refacers/makers give their best mouthpieces away to influential people who then beat them in auditions... heh heh heh

I guess a way of clarifying what I want to ask is this: every mouthpiece I own has a "name." I remember what it cost for me to obtain it and, in many cases, have it refaced. Even at my level (!) of collecting, there are limitations, not all of them financial. Mouthpiece makers are constantly exposed to fine, rare mouthpieces and have opportunities through their networks to sample the best of the best. One wonders what they use, and what they "will never sell." It's kind of like asking what they serve with lunch at Chateau Margaux.

I've sold all of my Chedevilles and Kaspars except one. I play on a mouthpiece I made (Chadash-Hill,) so I see no reason for me to keep good mouthpieces that I won't ever play (with the exception of an old Selmer that Mr. Matson did for me, and a Gigliotti that Mr. Gigliotti picked out for me: those are kept for personal reasons, since they were my teachers.) I've measured many mouthpieces, but if I want to measure more, I have access to quite a few.
I'd rather collect old records or coins.

They just keep (and presumably play) the mpc that works best for them. And that particular *one* would not necessarily be "best" for someone (anyone?) else. I personally know one supurb mpc maker who markets excellant products made from Zinner blanks, but plays in the symphony on his "cherished" Chedeville. Like the song from "South Pacific" says, "once you have found her, never let her go".
