If a clarinet is very free blowing,is it good, bad or neither?

it depends if you like free blowing clarinets.

If you find it easy to play in terms of breath resistance, then that's half the battle won. And that means you can concentrate on the technical side of playing a lot more - once the air is going through unhindered, you're less likely to worry, and will breeze through things much easier.

I remember finishing a cocobolo oboe and when I play tested it, it was as if it played itself. I then gave it to the director to try and he said exactly the same thing in that it's free blowing.

Some folks like myself prefer a certain amount of resistance in their setups, but generally I prefer the resistance to come from the mouthpiece more than from the clarinet itself.

if the intonation (throat tones, 12ths, eveness of scale) and tonal color is not there then a free blowing clarinet with the perfect amount of resistance is........worthless
