 Pieces that feature the clarinets?
Author: Roxann

I googled this question yesterday and got a couple of lists of serious concert pieces that feature the clarinet. The pieces listed aren't appropriate for the nursing home circuit and music-in-the-park circuit which we play. I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions more appropriate for our venues. We've played Leroy Anderson's Waltzing Cat and Leroy Anderson's Typewriter the past 2 seasons. I'm starting to look for a couple of pieces for next season and am hoping you can help. Maybe I just need to go through the "Leroy Anderson" drawer at Boise State! Does he feature the clarinet quite often? Thanks everybody for your help!

George Gershwin: Promenade (Walking the Dog).

And of course depending on your arranging capabilities, you can turn just about any familiar tune into something usable for a small ensemble.

One suggestion for that is to find a usable MP3 file of a tune and put it into "Finale" (I think other programs do this too). Then you pare down the essentials to the available instrumentation and VIOLA, you have music.

Our band just got the music for "minnie the moocher"

Nice song for audience participation.

Clarinet Candy by LeRoy Anderson seems to be in line with what you're seeking. A performance here:

With all the discussion of high-priced ligatures, looked to me that the US Army Band's first clarinets used three Rovners and one Luyben.
