It isn't necessarily a bad thing if the gap is less than 1 mm.. That proves that the joint goes tightly in the barrel so that there is no gap in the bore which results better intonation and vibration transfer from the mouthpiece to the body of the instrument. Actually IMHO all mothpiece manufacturers should make that joint preferably slightly too long than too short.
