What causes it? And before I seek an explanation maybe I should define it so that we're all talking about the same thing.

Chirping, to my way of thinking are micro-squeaks.

They aren't full blown squeaks that get in the way of a note being produced, rather, they sort of compete with the note being played and are heard in the background.

My understanding, maybe incorrect, of squeaking is a reed whose both sides don't vibrate freely(???). Is chirping just that only to a lessor extent?
