Different mouthpieces take different strength reeds. 2.5-3 should work for a B45. A mouthpiece that takes a harder reed might help you play the high notes in tune. To properly try out a new mouthpiece you will need a selection of reeds in various strengths.
In my shop, the Vandoren M series (mostly M13 and M13lyre) and the 5RV lyre were the biggest sellers for advancing students.
I've never been a fan of the B45.
