I was wondering if anyone has compared the Vandoren's current W270 Austrian mouthpiece to the older version CM390 (VA0)?
When bored out to 1010 specs, the A0 is nearly perfect for me on my Peter Eaton Elites. This was a big and pleasant surprise. I get the tuning of a well designed poly-cylindrical bore without the faff of all the extra Reform Boehm keywork.
I have previously tried quite a few German mouthpieces on the Elites but none seem to work as well as they do on a German bore clarinet. The VA0 produces a full, resonant sound from bottom to top, much like an Oehler or Reform Boehm instrument.
There just seems to be a natural synergy between the 0.73mm * ~30mm mouthpiece and the 15.24mm bore.
I'm looking for a backup for my A0, just in case, but it is now hard to find.
