 Re: Disinfecting techniques

Our community band have been rehearsing for a month now, in UK

Relevant to this thread, there should be no need to disinfect anything that is not shared. All our players are told they must never share anything between them. Everybody must bring a drip cloth with them, which they can seal in a bag and take away. The clarinets play with it below them, on the floor.

Slightly off topic to disinfecting instruments, but still relevant to safely rehearsing:
No activity is risk free, but risks can be minimised
All music is sent as PDF for people to print themselves, and bring
All players are distanced - before they are allowed in the room, plastic chairs are set up and sanitised with alcohol based wipes.
Flutes are the biggest risk for aerosol production (as it is blown over rather than through the mouthpiece) so have more distance.
Players sanitise their hands on way in and out.
Players go directly to their chairs (no socialising or mingling) and use their distancing space to keep all of their equipment within.
Face coverings stay on, and no warming up, until everyone is and sat down.
Doors and windows are open throughout rehearsal to maintain air flow
All brass instruments have bell covers (apart from F Horns) which significantly reduces their aerosol production. There is no point in a cover over a clarinet bell. F Horns are at the back, under open windows, as their bell is back facing.
Rehearsals are shortened to 90 minutes, and numbers in the room are limited by distancing needs.
Those that are not in rehearsal room are encouraged to join in by Zoom (they must be muted).
As soon as rehearsal ends, face coverings are put back on, people pack and leave promptly without social mingling, and two volunteers don gloves to wipe down the chairs and stack them.
