Karl,

I intentionally did not muddy the water with the details of proposed seating, rehearsal setting, and sanitizing protocols for other instruments. In general they are modeled after the Fall 2020 National Association for Music Education guidelines. My concern in posting the question is to seek accurate information to prevent harm to my clarinets and maybe to give some constructive feedback on the proposed protocals for the benefit of the other clarinetists. Although ethyl alcohol seems to be the best nontoxic anti-viral, it is a strong solvent and I am concerned about the effects of its repeated use (once or twice a week over several weeks or months) on my vintage grenadilla instruments with their waxed bodies and sealed bores. No one has said anything yet about sanitizing the bore, but I would like to be ready for that issue should it come up. For some reason I don't yet fathom the protocals suggested to us don't mention the use of bell covers on clarinets, oboes and saxohones. I intend to use one.

Ethynol wipes are now readily available and not toxic like isopropyl alcohol.

The more I think about it, though, the more I am moving in the direction of employing my hard rubber model or my beater Buffet. I don't enjoy playing them as much as I do my vintage Leblancs, but then I won't have anxiety attacks every time I wipe it down.
