It might be a long shot but I'd like to listen to the original piece to get an idea of what it sounds like. Thanks!

Unless it is based on something else that someone else might recognize, that IS the title of the piece. You'll notice it is not set up to be particularly musical but rather cover as many key changes, rhythmic changes, articulation changes, tempo changes and articulation variances as you can fit into one short exercise. So you need to work it so that ALL those come out in your presentation (as much as possible).

Alabama had original pieces composed for their All-State evaluations as well. A few years ago they went to Rose Etudes. Not sure what they are doing this year.

There's some biographical info on the composer, Robert Wall here: https://watertonbrassmusic.com/r-wall It says, "he is currently involved in an ongoing commission with the VA Band and Orchestra Directors Association since 2004 composing all wind etudes for the All-VA Band auditions."

It's not a bad little piece. At first glance it does look like one of those a-musical minefields that some state band directors associations seem to take perverse pleasure in inflicting on all-state applicants. This one actually makes sense most of the time even though it's a bit thorny.

I enjoyed reading it through and spending a little time working out the knots. Thanks for sharing it and good luck!

I'm not a great reader of scores at sight.

My apologies to Mr. West. A decent submission for this sort of thing.

[Wow.......double apology! That's Mr. Wall. I guess I just can't read.]

Garrick Zoeter - Nice playing of course, this is a challenging peace and the master class is excellent. Great job, I very much enjoyed this.
