I’ve never played a BD5. I have an old B45 that has great sound color and projection (much better than a new one I tried), but I’d rather not have something so open. I also have a Gennusa Exellelente, and I prefer the opening, playability, and intonation, but I just can’t get the same color or projection out of it. I have an M13 that I absolutely cannot not play, because it constantly squeaks (probably something wrong with it). I have an old Morgan Protone that is too edgy for me. I tried a Fobes Debut, and thought it was also too edgy for me.

Have you played any of these?

I have a Caravan for my alto saxophone that is awesome. That high harmonic that is present in the S-80 C*, and C**, and D (and other pieces I’ve heard), that’s like fingers on a chalkboard, was finally gone. For a time I even went to using my Meyer 6 for classical, it was not ideal, but at least the round chamber made that awful harmonic disappear, and I could control the edge somewhat. The Caravan is perfect, but now that I finally have a mouthpiece I like, I haven’t had occasion to play saxophone. LOL.
