I recently acquired a superb Oehler Bb clarinet. After repadding and recorking it plays extremely well. At A442 it tunes beautifully, but not so well at A440. The barrel is the German style, with a longer upper joint tenon than the Boehm types, and with the barrel pulled about 3mm I can improve the A440 tuning, but it isn't as good as at A442 with the barrel pushed right in. The upper joint tenon depth is 22.36mm as opposed to 19mm on a Boehm barrel. I'd like to get the instrument to tune well at 440. Do you think that this could best be done with a longer barrel, or by reaming the existing barrel, or perhaps not at all?.
