The is such enormity in the variety of mouthpieces that call themselves Chedeville's throught its production history, including original ones and ones made today, that I'm inclined to think that you don't seem to realize that either because you're not up on your mouthpieces, or there is a language barrier for you using English, or a little bit of both.

I do not say these things to hurt your feelings, but to point out that if (and that's a big if---as in I am by no means certain) the extent of your knowledge of the two doesn't extend much beyond the name, then getting a Chedeville would by like buying a Tesla for a new motor vehicle driver. It's going to be pricey, who knows if someone refinished it, and one could only wonder what its specs currently are.

If I must choose between the 2 mouthpieces--and I am not certain I have to--the CL6 is a very good mouthpiece and likely, cite unseen, to be a better value; especially if you buy it new. At least some of its attributes are published, and I can attest to its strong characteristics IMHO, having tried it. (I own one but it is not my primary mouthpiece.)

There are a multitude of factors as to which you should buy, not the least of which being what you like. The CL6 is a relatively open faced mouthpiece at http://www.vandoren-en.com/file/162039/ 1.135mm. Of course tip opening is one a many mouthpiece attributes.

"What do you play now, and why do you want to switch" might be good starting points to suggest mouthpieces for you to try.

Your instrument is certainly, by name, top line...and I admit confusion as to the level of your knowledge of the subject matter.

Yes... there is a certain language barrier...my primary language is not English.
Right now i play on vandoren 5jb, but is a little bit open, i play with vandoren reed nr3 and it's not responsive, if i put 2,5 reed it's to soft, the diference is huge. I think that with a different mouthpiece(not so open) it will be more easy and reed friendly. I see that cl6 has 1.135 mm opening..the same like M30, but something must be diferent.. I also have a b45 (1.195 mm) and it.s good but i want something new, i will try cl6, m30 and b45 with lyre to see what it.s best for me.

I open this topic just to know if someone tryed chedeville mouthpiece to give me a comparasion between them. On the internet say that Chedeville is like holy grail of mouthpieces, and if i have to buy something, i want to take the right decision. Where i live i can't try chedeville mouthpiece..

Are you looking at old Chedevilles on an auction site or new ones produced by the current manufacturer? The old Chedevilles from the 1920s-1940s, made by Charles in France and Henri in the U.S., are considered by many players a "Holy Grail" of sorts in the U.S. but are more difficult to find as time goes by. The modern ones are highly researched recreations of the originals produced by Dr. Omar Henderson, who posts here often. I don't personally own one or know anyone who plays one, but they are supposed to be very accurate recreations and should play well.

A note on the Chedeville website says that it was closed to new orders as of last November. Maybe Dr. Henderson will spot this thread and update us on the status.

If you must buy a Chedeville, even if it was a new one from makers like Omar Henderson, as Karl refers to, I'd make sure that you can buy it on trial.

Karl's reference to Dr. Henderson's closing of orders not withstanding, I don't know if he permits his mouthpieces to be purchased on trial out of the US: I'd contact him first.

Are you primarily performing jazz, where an open faced mouthpiece allows you flexibility in voicing? I ask because larger tip opening mouthpieces like the 5jb can be harder to control, and in my opinion are not worth the flexibility if you are playing more within the classical realm of music.

I have played every Vandoren mouthpiece you cite (barring the JBs), though I prefer the smaller tip opening of the M15. I also work in the classical realm of play.

The M30, particularly the M30D, which can be played on Boehm clarinets allows for a beautiful sound that will help take shrillness out of the upper clarion range and beyond (this may run opposite to effects you with to produce with your sound.) The fact that the M30D sticks out ever so little on Buffet barrels did not affect pitch for me.

The CL6 is a wonderful mouthpiece if you wanted just one mouthpiece for the entire realm of the instrument. I'd call it the "B45" of mouthpieces (all purposes) that's more controllable.

My first serious mouthpiece was a B45 40 years ago. It's tip is too open for me.

If you buy the CL6, the ONLY metal ligature that Vandoren will give its blessing for you to use is the M/O ligature FOR MASTERS MOUTHPIECES.

Let me see if I have this right: there are 4 platings for the M/O ligature, each one coming in a Masters and non-Masters mouthpiece variety...so 8 options.

If you buy an M/O ligature for this mouthpiece make sure you get the one has a letter "M" with a circle around it. The non Master mouthpiece variety of the M/O lig will not have this "M" with a circle around it.

It's a LONG story how this came to be and how Vandoren had to redesign the ligature they seemed to originally make for the Masters mouthpiece, by subsequently splitting off the design into Master mouthpiece and non Masters mouthpiece varieties.

Flexibile ligatures (cloth, leather, string) are always find with the Masters mouthpiece, and I've gotten a Bonade metal lig to work fine with it.

Do NOT get these ligatures: http://www.wmaker.net/vandorenenglish/file/142502/ as they are examples of the non-Master's mouthpiece version of the ligatures.

Instead, get M/O's with the "M with a circle around it" consistent with the logo found on the mouthpieces here: http://www.vandoren-en.com/file/162039/

Someone my have the URL to the M/O ligatures for Masters mouthpieces address to offer.

At Weiner Music http://shop.weinermusic.com/VANDOREN-MO-Bb-CLARINET-LIGATURE-PLASTIC-CAP/productinfo/LV1MO/ they are the four entires from the drop down combo box that say "(for M/O mouthpiece)."

(I have no affiliations with anyone in music.)

I've been playing since 1963 ... and I don't know which one to buy ... next.

The Vandoren M13, M13-lyre and M15 incorporates some of the better features of the Henri Chedeville MPs ... worth consideration.

I think you should be careful to avoid overselling those Series 13 models you've named. The VD Series 13s are decent mouthpieces and lots of people play happily on them, including apparently some well-known clarinetists (Burt Hara comes up often in these discussions). But they aren't Chedevilles and players who choose them should choose because they like them for their own qualities.

Well ... I know M13 series are not really and truly Chedevilles ... but some of the acoustics were incorporated, supposedly in their design, such a the baffle geometry.

Charles Bay had a MP he called the "Old Chedeville" ... he mentioned that while attending a convention in Europe, someone bought several at one time ... turns out that this purchaser was affiliated with a MP company ... apparently going to clone Charlie's product ...

I think Dr. Omar Henderson might have something similar to the "real McCoy" and others as well. Brad Behn strives for authentic material for his MPs, but I am not sure his acoustic design philosophy adheres necessarily to vintage previous art ... seems to have many of his own ideas ... scientific, artistic and pragmatic.

We are so fortunate to have such great MP designers nowadays! Too many choices?
