I was lucky enough to see him lead a big band from the lead alto chair at Symphony Hall ten or fifteen years ago. It was the week of the Midwest Clinic and the program was "The Nutcracker". It was Tchaikovsky's original suite juxtaposed with Duke Ellington's arrangement, traded back and forth between the two ensembles, movement by movement. The big band was in front of the CSO, which was conducted by Daniel Barenboim. A very memorable concert!
