You can buy bottles of Kilrock kettle descaler from Robert Dyas that will make light work of the mineral deposits encrusting the inside of the crook. If there's no tenon cork on it or it can be sacrificed, then make a solution of hot water and descaler and soak it (use a glass bowl) until the mineral deposits are all dissolve, then rinse it well once done.
