Vinegar should work. I used to use a bath of vinegar water and dish detergent.

Most shops use some sort of acid bath. Some are worse for the metal than others. Some can completely dissolve metal that is forgotten and left for a few days. I use a product that won't do that.

For mouthpieces I sometimes use denture cleaner. It is slower but the smell left behind is less offensive.
