Hi guys
I've just had my clarinet serviced by a very reputable professional guy who does this stuff for a living and everything is perfect apart from my low G sounds muffled to me.
The thing is, I haven't played my clarinet for some time and now I'm starting to wonder, is it just me or does the clarinet have a slightly muffled sound on the low G. The guy insists there is nothing wrong with it. I do know someone who would be able to play to play through the instrument and who would know but I won't be seeing them for at least another two weeks and in the meantime, I don't really want to be leaving it.
Its almost like you can hear a lot more air coming from my mouth when playing too, sounds like a bad embrouchure maybe? when i play the D, there is no problem...

If the venting of the two largest pad cups is on the low side - especially the F/C key pad, that will make the low G sound stuffy.

Usually it's a sign that the lowest pads on the right side are set-up too low. The adjustments on these pads are tricky for inexperienced person. Do not try to do it yourself. Take it back to the repairmen.

I had this same problem with a Selmer CT that was given to me some months back.
I checked for leaks first, then looked to the right lower pad heights, but they were adjusted correctly. So just in case I was wrong about that, I removed the keys entirely to try the G, but had the same problem.
What it turned out to be was the bell! Not very intuitive, given that the notes above and below the G weren't stuffy, but when I experimented by changing bells, the problem went away. (I switched from the stock CT bell to an R13 bell.)

The bell can have this kind of negative effect indeed. My RC Prestige had the same problem. When I tried it with a regular RC bell, the sonority of low E, F, F#, G improved very much.
