 New Case suggestions.

I have a pair of Toscas. Love the instrument. The double case is another story. It looks great but, unfortunately, it is a bit impractical. It lacks room for: extra mouthpieces, barrels, reeds, music, tools etc...
I'm considering buying another Buffet Prestige case, with a cover. Does anyone have any better suggestions?
Chris.

Yeah - get a Yamaha double case as they're much better made than Buffet cases, all the joints are separated (the bells don't remain on the lower joints) and they're compact. You can probably get a ready made case cover to put it in as well.

I use a Yamaha double for my Selmers, but I made alterations to fit the longer lower joints. You'd normally have four slots for barrels and a slot for a tube of grease.

contact Anvil/Calzone and have them make a custom roadcase for you. You can have every piece frenched in as well as any storage compartment added. I have a couple of their cases for my Alembic basses and they provide great protection and a perfect fit.

The Marcus Bonna case is wonderful. Each joint is suspended within the case, rather than the joints going into molded styrofoam. The parts that suspend the joints are movable-- I was able to make the case into a Bb/Eb double case!
What's also cool about it is that each storage "compartment" inside the case is movable. I have one slot big enough to put my neckstrap in, and another big enough to hold a mouthpiece securely. It's incredibly lightweight, and it comes in every color you can imagine. :)

I use the stock double Tosca case for mine, but got a padded Cavallero case cover for it. It's got a big ol' zipper pocket on the exterior big enough for lots of accessories.

Take a look at the $45 Woodwind Brasswind double case
http://www.wwbw.com/Allora-Double-Clarinet-Case-585583-i1534398.wwbw. Lots of space inside, well built. Only down side is that the outside music pocket is very small - good for ~1 method book but that's it.

I've had the case for years and found it quite durable (and incredibly inexpensive.)

Beth is right on about the Bonna Case. I absolutely love the case. Perfect for me because of my low E/F mechanism. Not only is a double case but it can be retrofitted to carry an Eb clarinet in addition to the Bb and A. Did I mention that it is also lighter and smaller than a BAM double? :)

It is completely worth the investment. Check it out. I've attached a picture of my case so you can see what it looks like.

Buy a pelican case and make your own. Then you can organize it however you like, make spots for however many barrels you want, etc. etc. Just figure out a layout that you want for your clarinets and equipment, measure a box around it, and buy the pelican case that best fits that size.

Also, pelican cases are extra protective, and have a lifetime warranty. If it breaks, for whatever reason, they replace it.

I would check out the new Protec double case. It looks much nicer than the previous model, in my opinion, and has many of the features of say, the BAM Trekking, but at a lower price.

you could swap the tosca case (with instruments inside) for a case of fine 2009 bordeaux from any number of exquisite producers.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I think I'm heading towards the wine swap idea!

I have the Allora case. I like the interior storage, but it hasn't held up all that well for me. The little stopper bumper things came off leaving the sharp end of a screw and the nylon is fraying and makes the zipper jam. The price was right and it's fine for my needs as an amateur orchestra member but if you're a serious student or pro who hauls the case around daily, it probably wouldn't last very long. I have no complaints about how well it protects my clarinet though.
