Is there a significant difference between them? A clinician recently came to my high school and recommended 5RV's over M13's (I currently have an M13 lyre) because the facing is straight instead of long, but I don't know if that would make enough of a difference to consider switching.
If I were you, I'd stick with what I have. Your clinician may mean well, but which mouthpiece you ideally should use is more dependent on what works *for you*, and may have little to no relation to someone else's preferences.
The 5RVL was the usual recommendation of band directors when I was in school, as it produces adequate results for most students, but as far as I know there isn't anything *inherently superior* about the 5RV and 5RVL as compared to Vandoren's other mouthpieces. It all comes down to how well it works for you.
Particularly if the clinician isn't going to sit down with you individually and help you pick out a better mpc on the basis of how well it works when *you* play it (as a private teacher would), you shouldn't feel obligated to follow his advice.
