Thibouville Freres - Ecole

My eight year old is interested in learning to play the clarinet and we purchased him an older Thibouville Freres Ecole model. I assumed that this was a student or "school" model. He is taking piano lessons now and will get into the clarinet next year. Is this a good starter model? Does anyone know where we can go to get information on the company that made this instrument. Regards
