 I'm going to London!

Hi everyone!
I'm moving to London at the beginning of September (From the colony, no less!). My flight is booked and accommodation sorted. My plan is to do postgraduate study. I'm lucky because I have an EU passport.
I need advice and general experiences from anyone who has ever lived, worked and especially studied in London.
I'm definitely auditioning at Guildhall for their Postgrad Diploma in Orchestral Training, and Masters at RAM, but I'm still not sure about RCM, their courses just don't seem that great on paper... But maybe I'm missing something here?

Auditions are in November/December to start September 2008, so I'll have lots of time to kill... Anywhere I can look for playing opportunities?
Any UK clarinetists wanna catch up?

I'm REALLY exited about this as you can tell!

London is a really great place to be as student!

As for the Masters, someone I know of who is the current principal clarinetist of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra won the position while still a student at the RCM, so the clarinet department ! It is also next to the Royal Albert Hall and Imperial College in very nice part of London.

Trinity is out in Greenwich in the very nice old Maritime building by the river, but you are a bit away from Central London. The prestigious Guardian education rankings recently rated it as the Top Music Institution in the UK, so that might be a factor. You might find this useful

The Academy is in a less nicer part of London for me, although the students I knew from there were very enthusiastic about it. I also recently read that it had the most amount of money for grants to deserving students, so that might be a factor.

In my days, Guildhall was considered to be more related to education but that might have changed.
