The storage space is plenty. Guess why I have a back ache after my practice. No, I play with a good posture!! I'm a mere packrat.

You are concerned about the insulation. I started using the Altieri cover for the very reason but I'm not sure if the "state-of-the-art" 4-layer insulation is really what you are looking for. I am very happy with my cover believing it's helping to prevent the abrupt temperature change. I, however, have not monitored the temperature with the cover so I don't know how much it helps.

I've used it more than five winters where you encounter the severe temperature change (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where the temperature gap easily can be more than 90F: -20F outside to 70F inside) Never had a crack because of the temperature but the instrument is not warm after more than 10 minutes walk outside with case cover. (I wipe off all the visible moisture before moving to a building to another)

Now, I don't know if there is any case maker providing the cover or case to prevent any heat-loss/gain, but I'm glad I have my Altieri even if it's only for the storage purpose. Mind you I like its look alone.

Protection against shock, you inquire, is I think almost solely up to the carrier. The cover will probably absorb some/little shock. The case does most of the shock absorbing but if you hit the case a little here and little there you will notice the need of alignment pretty frequently(especially true for the larger, alto or bass clarinets). When I'm in a car, I carry it on my lap, or the seat, never on the bare floor. No.
