When preparing a repertoire list for college auditions - what exactly should be included. Do you include all the pieces you are currently working on?
What about pieces you have performed with your school symphonic orchestra? Can you include an opera if you are in the opera orchestra and will be performing this in the next month. Do you include the scores of shows the school has performed if you were in the pit orchestra?

Why would you need a repertoire list??? Where is you child thinking of auditioning. All the colleges I've looked at never specified a repertoire list as a necessity. We just usually played our solo(s) of contrasting style, and a few scales (chosen by the audition committee).
When I think of a repertoire list, I think of solos, as in JUST clarinet or clarinet and piano accompianiment (Did I spell that wrong???). Classics like the Mozart Concerto K622, Weber Concertino, Stravinsky Three Pieces, etc. Anything you KNOW WELL, and can play on the spot. If you are working on it (i.e. woodshedding), then DON't include it imo. I wouldn't include pieces written for band/orchestra, or pieces for small ensembles, either. Stick with the solos. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in and give you clearer advice!!!

Becuase some college and many conservatories require them. When in doubt, follow instructions ...
Clarinetmom - don't guess - call the college in question. My son had to supply a repertoire list when he applied for some conservatories and was asked to play an excerpt from them in more than one case.

Wow Mark,
Having applied to about 6, and having gone to one, and known probably 1000s of conservatory types, I have never heard of anyone being asked to play an excerpt from their "repertoire list." Ill keep that in mind, especially if i ever get a student good enough to audition for a conservatory
When i did this, I just basically wrote down any piece i had performed, and the works i had studied with my teacher. Also any etudes i had worked on. I think put a the wind quintets i had studied in a woodwind program i was in.

Why not include ensemble pieces you've performed?
It is harder to play in a chamber group correctly than to perform solo.
There are also many pieces such as Thorpe's Time travel which requrie other mechanisms the perform.
If you can show diversity in your playing, isn't that better than saying that you can just play K.622 or Weber 1 and 2 etc.?
I would be greatly impressed if my students came up to me with a repertoire list that included Francaix's Petite Quartour....
