 backun products

Hello,

I posted a Backun mouthpiece topic before and it got out of line I was telling everyone that I ordered Backun barrels, bells and mouthpieces and that I would tell everyone my results.

I must say I was very impressed with their products. I was playing on a Pyne to a G.Smith and now a Backun. The tone quality, projection, tuning and just everything is the best I have heard so far. The moutpiece and barrel are such a great combination together. I always tricked myself into getting new equipment and then believing that it was better than my old equipment. But I can honestly say I love their products. Its also nice to see products from Canada and my home city make it somewhere big in the musical world.

Please don't let this get out of hand like the other one.

thanks!

[ Let us handle that. Mark C and I are the arbiters of what's proper and improper on this board, no one else - GBK ]

Excellent to hear. I always look forward to opinions about products. I might bite the bullet and spring to try out a mouthpiece of theirs. I love trying out new products. It's fun and entertaining. I only wish I had Lisa Argiris' old job of being able to test out all new things for Intl Music Suppliers, and selecing what I like/dislike for future orders! WHAT a fantasy job!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. Out of curiousity, can you tell us whether they have different facings available (requiring different reed strengths)? Or is it generally all faced around one size reed (as some others are . . . Greg Smith comes to mind which tends to use a 3.5 - 4 reed on all his mouthpieces)

I have a Backun mouthpiece borrowed from an associate last week. It is absolutely the nicest mouthpiece I have ever put on my old Leblanc LL or Dynamique. Been using it with regular cut Gonzalez 2.75 reeds, BG Revelation ligature and stock Leblanc bell and barrel. I'm not sure what facing it is, just that it is very free blowing and a joy to play on.

I'll also say it is nice to see good music products developed in a great place like Canada.

===========================================

These are guidelines and are often seen on other mouthpiece makers' websites. They're a generally suggested strength and style, hence the qualifier "or equivalent". Often times all brands of reeds and strengths - even 1/4 to 1/2 strength lighter of heavier than the 3.5 - 4 guideline - are used successfully.

While I'm glad to see the report, we just had a very long thread on Backun products. ed03, since you've just started using the Backun products, why not report back on your use of them in 6 months and then again in a year? That's a more telling review than one right after a product is received.

Just drop me a line and we can re-open the thread or start a new one.
