Searching for info for programme notes!
Author: Morrigan

Hi all
I'm having trouble finding info online (I'm too lazy for the library), I'm after resources for programme notes for my recital. I need info on Beethoven's Trio Op. 11 - I can't find info anywhere! Not EVEN it's date of composition! I also need info on Baermann, how he and Weber came to meet and a chronological listing of his clarinet works. Again, harder to find online that it sounds.

Any good web pages out there? Wikipedia doesn't even have an entry for Baermann!

Thanks!

It's often amazing what you could find when you get out of the house.

No sympathy here...

How about starting at the library and looking for (among many possibilities) Pamela Weston's Clarinet Virtuosi of the Past and back issues of The Clarinet magazine. Specifically: Volume 12 No. 2 ...GBK

I'm sorry Morrigan, but I felt really disgusted after reading your plea for help. Really, don't you think that doing a bit of research for program notes is part of your responsibility? If you, the performer, know nothing about the music, how do you expect to present it eonvincingly to the audience ?

These are both well known composers, and I would think you would be eager to spend a little time to enhance your knowledge as a well rounded musician.

Now, you know that we cannot do your practicing for you - so why not take on the full responsibility for your recital.

Believe me, you will feel better for having done so. Please accept this advice in the spirit in which it is given.

Good luck,

Gene

Sheesh, not asking someone to provide me with the info - just thought someone might know some good web resources. I've done a few hours already this morning and the Beethoven Op.11 date of composition still eludes me... It doesn't even say it on the music!

I don't really know how to use my library anyway. I KNOW how to use the internet! Problem is, there's so much out there it's hard to find specifics.

FWIW it took about 3 minutes on google to find program notes on this work online, including the composition date.

Just an illustration of the resources on-line, not a suggestion to plagiarize. If you take the time to go to a library and do real research, you will find some amazing things that are not available on the web, and you will set yourself apart from all the lazy students who all use the same sources off the web.
