What I meant was that (At least, I think) each pitch has a tone color that is matched with it. I was thinking, when I play a c, for example, I would hear what was previously the tone of a c, but the pitch of a d. This would mean that I would have to transpose, but also hear different colors than usual, which would be confusing.
Is this idea mistaken? I may not heard it from a trust-able enough source to believe.

Also, do you have any advice on where to buy a playable C for a low price? It's not urgent at all, just maybe want to experiment.
