Hi I play alto sax and am auditioning for Western Illinois University on Feb. 16 . One of my audition pieces involves a lot of high ds, and es. My problem is when i go up to a d, my sax has a little squeak with every note and down to a c. I have been playing since 6th grade so I dont think its me, but it could be. My sax just got all fixed up, its not that. Could it be my mouthpiece? I have a meyer java I think its a 5 face opening. PLEASE any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am desperate and am running out of time.

We had to do that on our all region music. Our director said that the key is to keep the exact same embochure. Also, what size and type of reed are you using? You might want to try a selmer c* mouthpiece also, great for more advanced people

i hope this isn't too late, i know for clarinet, you keep a steady fast stream of air. and make a smaller cavity in your mouth, like the vowel 'E'. and don't overbite any notes, if you pinch the notes out they tend to be very sharp and can lead to bad habits. hope this helps.

Thank both of you for your help. On Friday I asked my band director if I could demo a c*. I didnt get a chance to play all weekend, and I just tried it out a minute ago. It was definately my mouthpiece. I am so happy cause I was screwed if I didnt figure out. I bought the c* so I should be set. Thanks again
