 Soprano Saxophone Brands

Are there any brands out there that are good or bad for Soprano Saxophones? I mean, I am thinking of investing in a soprano but they range from 200-2000 dollars. Is it really worth it to buy a 2000 when a 200 or 300 dollar one will do just fine??

i've noticed that you get what you pay for in soprano saxs. don't spend $200 on a sax unless you play test it first, otherwise, it has a really big potential to be a piece of crap. a good soprano sax runs around $1000, there is always the exception of a good deal where it is $500. hunt around and play test before you buy, to make sure you get the sax you want, and responds well to you. hope this helps.

I completely forgot brands. it is up to you which one you choose, Selmer and Yamaha are top notch. Selmer Mark series are the sopranos that other models are based upon. i beleive Kenny G plays a Selmer Mark III. S&B is also a good brands aswell for those not wanting a pro model. hope this helps.

I thank you for your input. I am on a limited budget and as much as I would absolutely love to buy a high-end model, but I cannot. True, selmer and yamaha are top notch, but in this case hardly affordable. Do you have any information about the Schill brand of saxophones??

Xander
Selmer doesn't make anything anymore. It is all farmed out to stencilers. The grand American brands are now made in Asia.
I have had good experiences with Lafayette and Bestler. Laurel is OK. All the European sounding horn names are made in Asia: Helmke, Schill, German Engineering.
You have to play them. Get a real mouthpiece to try them with.
