Well la dee da guess what? We're playing Dvorak New World Symphony, and lo and behold I get stuck with the EH part in the Largo, and a crapworth english horn. I'm in a rut here...it's probably the bocal? I'm definitely not underblowing, I've checked that...what else to look for?

I dont know how to help you, but I love number 9!!! We played the first movement in an orchestra once... I got all four oboe solos because it was a crappy orchestra that didnt have any real oboe players... bassoons either :0

Reeds maybe? How old are your reeds? A few weeks ago I had to play a English horn solo in this piece for Wind Orchestra and it was unbelievably horrible since it had been so long since I played English Horn and my reeds were old so I couldn't produce the tone that I usually do. If not the reeds, maybe there is a defect on the horn? Try looking for loose rods or something.
