i have a question about is every oboe have resistant? becasue i have been playing my oboe for 2 years and my oboe has to blow out sounds by using lot of force, or i am not playing in correct way ?? thanks

well, if you are struggling to get the notes out its gonna really be a problem. there is resistance in every wind instrument, BUT, the oboe has more than most, none the less, there shouldnt be any stress in playing the oboe, and breathing should be as natural as any other instrument.
of course to understand whats wrong we must know what u cant do first, hehe.

It takes more breath suppot than othe instruments because the air column is so thin. If you compare the aperture of the reed to say a clarinet, it's so much different. So it may just be your beath support needs to be improved.

I disagree. The flute and piccolo takes more breath support than any other instrument.

its a very different thing FLute1, i just attended a masterclass with a trombone player from the Royal Concertgebouw on breathing and learnt quite a lot, what we term as air support can be defined as a lot of things.
the flute requires LOTS of air, and it has the same physical pressure problems an oboe player might face, in fact, an oboe player will most of the time have too much air to spare, and they have to learn how to exhale quickly before inhaling a new breath. thus the faint syndrome in so many new oboe players! they both require very focussed air stream but like what i said it might be a bit more crucial on the oboe, just that, because the aperture is small like what Lottie said and the accoustics differences that exist.

think of ur lungs like a balloon when air is in. What happens? You dont have to pysically do anything the air sipmply exits. Your lungs are the same. Then you have to maintain the consitonecy of the air flow with the inner intercostal muscles. "So trying to do as little as possible" The less effort the easy it is and the less resistance the air as to deal with and the more resononate you will be.
