To all you fellow bassoon lovers out there! I am having a problem. I cannot play the A, Bb, and sometimes B below middle C. I have to invent a new right-hand third/fourth finger position every time I try to play these notes. Does anyone else have a similar problem? It is incredibly aggravating. However, I have no problems with any of the higher notes, I have an instrument that can supposedly play up to a high high high D or E, but of course no fingering charts give me how to play these notes. Does anyone have answers to any of these questions? Please respond!

Are you "flicking" the speaker keys when you try these notes? It sounds like you could use a good fingering chart, also. There is a good fingering chart online at http://idrs.colorado.edu/BSNFING/FINGHOME.HTM. Good luck!

Playing with sufficient overbite is at least part of the solution. Your upper lip should be nearer the reed end, while the lower should be nearer the wire. This could also be approached by trying a different bocals. Finally, there are some possible instrument corrections that might. I've seen a paper by Hugh Cooper about this exact problem.
