I hear that flutes have a lot of eigth notes in most songs saxophones don't. And since Tenor is low, you will no longer have the melody all the time, you will play the backround parts. Sometimes you will have the melody.

The music for tenor sax is written in the same notation as for flute, in the Treble Clef. But the notes that come out are actually much lower, because the tenor sax is a transposing instrument. If you buy music written specifically for tenor sax, this is not a problem. You just play it and it comes out right. But it does mean that you won't be able to pick up any old piece of music and play it, because it will be in the wrong key.
